Deacons

Worship and Fellowship at RVCC

The Deacons work closely with the Pastor and are responsible for the spiritual life of the church, which includes strengthening our community through a variety of fellowship events and activities that reach out to our entire church family.

We worship together each Sunday with a service that begins at 10:00 am and lasts for about an hour. We share in the sacrament of communion generally on the first Sunday of each month. Each year in September the Deacons introduce a congregational theme. A recent one was the Many Waters Project. Everyone was encouraged to bring in a small amount of water from their special summer places to add to a common pitcher to symbolize the love that we as a church family can generate from all of us as individuals. Throughout the year in creative ways during worship we are reminded that “many waters cannot quench love nor can the floods drown it" (Song of Solomon).

In addition to a regular coffee hour following worship each Sunday, the Deacons offer several other fellowship activities:

College Care Packages - Twice a year, we send a care package of goodies donated by several church members to college students associated with our church family. Some of these students grew up in the church, and others are grandchildren of church members.
Raymond Village Pumpkin Display and Halloween Trick or Treating - Because our church is on the Main Street route of over 600 trick or treating children each Halloween, we provide fairly traded chocolate bars and encourage the Town to participate in a carved and lighted pumpkin display outside the church to benefit UNICEF.
Birthday Party for Jesus and other Special Occasion Coffee Hours - The Deacons coordinate several special coffee hours following worship each year. A birthday party for Jesus after the Christmas pageant as well as times to honor new members and church elders are examples.
