Worship Opportunities at RVCCNursery Care is available Kindergartners begin the morning with their teacher Children in grade 1 and above begin the morning worshipping with their families and leave for Sunday School after the Youth Message We invite you to join us each Sunday morning for a time of worship and celebration. Each week we try to look at the old stories in new ways. Our worship is rich in deeply respected traditions while at the same time vibrant, energizing, and thought-provoking. At times, we utilize drama, visual media, and a variety of musical styles and elements. Our service lasts about one hour and includes hymn singing, prayers, Scripture reading, and a sermon. We are blessed with a wonderful and dedicated choir that provides the musical foundation for our worship. At times, especially on holidays and during the summer, special music supplements our worship. Our guest musicians have included bag pipers, guitarists, violinists, and trained soloists. In addition, occasionally our Youth Singers share their talents as well as the Raymond Village Community Church Very Occasional Men’s Choir. We invite everyone to participate in the two sacraments of the church. These rituals help us to celebrate God’s grace and love in evocative and visual ways. Through Baptism, God embraces you – no matter who you are – as you begin your Christian journey. Through Baptism, we recall the special covenant we have with God and with this church family who vows to love, support, and care for you always. We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of every month as well as at special services such as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday. We share a simple meal of bread and juice as we recall the loving acts of Jesus, commit ourselves to similarly loving acts of justice, and experience oneness with God and the presence of Christ in our lives. Special Worship OpportunitiesThroughout the year, we have special worship services in addition to our regular Sunday services. These help us to enrich and deepen our faith in moving and memorable ways. These typically include: Ash Wednesday – a time to begin the journey through the season of Lent using prayer, Scripture, readings, and songs. Maundy Thursday – a simple soup and bread supper flows into a Seder (Passover) meal and communion. Worship continues with a Tenebrae (“shadows”) service using candlelight. Good Friday – our sanctuary is open for prayer and contemplation. Reading material and visual media is available, and all are welcome to sit quietly for a while. Easter Daybreak Service – an early morning outdoor service in collaboration with the Casco Village Church. This service tends to be non-traditional and includes a breakfast at the Casco Church. Dress warmly!! Advent Vespers and Healing Service – an opportunity in early December to rejoice in the coming season as well as to acknowledge the stress and sadness that too often accompanies it. This is a quiet and contemplative service with carols, readings, and candlelight. Christmas Eve – two candlelight services are offered: a late afternoon one for families and a late evening one with communion. In past years, the family service has sometimes incorporated a traditional pageant as well as reading Christmas stories. The late service includes Scripture, carols, secular readings, and communion. |
